About Expedition House
Confidentiality
All information is strictly confidential, privileged and protected under California law. A client’s information is never disclosed to a third-party without the expressed written authorization of the client. We make it our business to protect a person’s right to privacy.
Affordability and Flexibility
As you might suspect, decrease in structure, for example moving from residential treatment level to day treatment level or from day treatment to intensive outpatient, means considerable savings to our clients. We recommend these “transitions” as the client shows progress in treatment. All fees and charges are presented to clients at time of assessment. There are no hidden costs, or extras. Clients are given all information necessary to make informed decisions based on all treatment options available. If we cannot meet a client’s needs, financial or otherwise, we explain all options they have available to them. We never pressure clients to make on-the-spot decisions, nor do we insist they start at higher care levels unless clinically necessary.
Flexible Payment Options
We accept all forms of payment including private insurance, credit cards and self-pay. Flexible payment arrangements are possible. All payment agreements must be made in advance of program start and agreed to in writing. Co-pays if required by your insurance company are paid at time of service.
Our Vision
There is no substitute for hard work in recovery. Diligence, motivation and working a 12-Step program are the keys to successful abstinence. The catalyst necessary for successful recovery is wrapped in formal chemical dependency treatment. Our clients learn to remove obstacles, which are preventing them from attaining long-term sobriety. We encourage self-reliance and personal accountability. We model respect for self and others. We have a vision that all of our clients will learn the value of balance in recovery.
Our Mission
Our mission is to help clients change dependency as a means of coping. Every person is in some respects a broken stick. In other words, they have both strengths and limitations. We do not lean nor do we encourage leaning. Clients learn self-determination and self-reliance within the framework of the 12-Steps and 12-Traditions. Our mission is to teach clients to live a different lifestyle through abstinence from all mood-altering substances. We want our clients to know that recovery is achieved through personal efforts and insight. Once recovery is internalized, it is no longer “apart from” but “a part of” the individual. It is our mission to help each and every client we are privileged to work with achieve lasting sobriety.
Least Restrictive Care
The research literature on addiction treatment is clear. It is not level of treatment that predicts success in recovery, but the length of time a person is in treatment. Deciding what level of care is appropriate for a client is very individualized. This is because each person’s needs and circumstances are different. We always begin with the least restrictive level of care recommendations for our clients. If higher levels of care are required or mandated we can adjust your care levels accordingly. A fundamental belief we hold is that the least amount of intrusion into a client’s life is always best whenever possible.
By design, the higher the care level, the greater the structure required and the more tendency there is to isolate the individual from daily living. Programming should be designed to help a person develop recovery skills and techniques for staying sober, but in an environment, which does not propagate a false sense of security. In other words, clients who are isolated for long periods of time “in-house” can be lulled into a false sense of security.
Clients may lose sight of the realities and challenges, which will be facing them in early recovery once they return home. They do not get real opportunities to try on new skill sets until after they are discharged. It is Expedition House’s belief this is one of the primary reasons that relapse, immediately following inpatient and residential programs, is so prevalent. Although we do offer these levels of care, we never lose sight of our primary objective to keep our client connected to family, friends, work and community through our philosophy of least restrictive care. So, we can and will move clients up and down the continuum of care as their progress indicates it is appropriate to do so.
Court Mandated Care
Court mandate in the interest of public safety is always our highest priority. When clients are required to participate at higher levels of care to protect the “public interest” we are able to provide inpatient residential, work release and other levels of care as required.
Vertically Integrated Care
Vertically Integrated Care simple means that the client has access to various care levels during the course of treatment. A client may begin care at one level, for example, chemical dependency residential and can move between levels of care as they improve. Conversely, should outpatient treatment not provide sufficient structure the client can step-up to a higher level of treatment? Vertical integration allows for the most fluid, cost-effective & flexible treatment options.
